St. Patrick's Day
St. Patrick's Day has been organised under the honorable auspices of the Embassy of Ireland by the teachers and students from VI Liceum Ogólnokształcące since 2002.
In November we invited primary and secondary school students from our region to take part in art, music and knowledge contests about Ireland.
The results were announced and prizes presented 17 March, St. Patrick's Day, in front of an audience attending a concert of Irish traditional music and dance. These concerts, organised either at the Galeria u Jezuitów or the Scena na Piętrze theatre, have become a regular feature of St. Patrick's celebrations in Poznań. They star the Swarzedz Tin Whistle Orchestra, our school Irish Dance Group and an Irish band invited to Poznań by the school for St. Patrick's Day.
The prizewinner in the music contest is invited to sing the winning song, the art works are on display. The public can purchase silver jewelry with Celtic motives or become familiar with offers from Tourism Ireland.
'Ireland' is the enduring theme of the concerts: The landscapes of Ireland (2004), Dancing on dangerous ground (a traditional Irish legend) (2005), The legend of St. Patrick (2006), The history of Irish Dance (2007), and Ceol, Craic, Cairdeas (2008).
The week preceding St. Patrick's Day is a week full of events at VI Liceum Ogólnokształcące. Visitors can admire The Emerald Island's beauty as captured on photographs displayed in the school aula, take part in lectures, or view a film about the country.
This year's celebration took place at the Scena na Piętrze theatre, where more than 300 people came to enjoy traditional Irish music and dance.
The winners of the first three places were presented with extremely attractive awards donated by WSJO (a two-day trip for 2 people to Dublin), the widely recognised OMNIBUS Language School (a year's course in English), Profi-Lingua Language School (half a year course in any language of the winner's choice), and the Oxford University Press, Express Publishing and Longman publishing houses (dictionaries and books for learning English).
